Fed-Ex, East African courier separate

FedEx an international courier company with operations in Uganda, and regional courier service company East African Courier Uganda have ended their 12 year relationship. Executives at the two firms told Daily Monitor that they ended their collaboration to become more efficient players in Uganda based on their areas of specialty.
Fed Ex is strong at doing international courier business while EACL is more focused when it comes to national and regional services. Tonny Mugisha the head of sales and marketing EACL said: “The time had come for the EACL regional brand to step out on its own and be seen as a reputable party.”
Through their partnership, EACL serviced Fed Ex, on the domestic, regional and international network.
“EACUL has developed a very strong set of connections and footprint countrywide and the region. This gives us the forward motion to go out on our own and explore,” Mr. Mugisha added.
The company has widened its footprint to over 55 locations in Uganda in addition to its operations in Kenya, Rwanda,Tanzania and Burundi. John Mwalimu, the company’s country manager said the end of the business bond presented EACL a clear advantage to concentrate on delivering with more efficiency and speed on it’s strong foothold in the domestic and regional markets.
In a separate interview, Leonard Githinji the head of operations at Pax Transport which represents FedEx in Uganda, also said the affiliation was ended to enable them specialize in what they do best.
“We wanted to become more efficient by specialising in international courier services,” he said in a phone interview on Friday.
