‘I dislike bodas, slow pedestrians’

Reagan Kabunga, 33, is a praise and worship leader at Miracle Centre Rubaga. While many labour day and night, and others pick up loans to buy cars, Kabunga says he just received his car from God.

What type of car do you drive?
Mitsubishi Pajero. It is a heavy vehicle you know, and it commands respect befitting the kind of job I do. My boss loves big things, you know.

Who is your boss and what kind of job do you do?
My boss is the Lord Jesus Christ, the owner of the entire universe, and my job is to preach and sing the good news of the Lord to the world around me and beyond and I believe it is the most highly-paying job in the world.

I presume it did not fall like rain from Heaven, so tell me how much it cost you?
This machine cost Shs70m and above but you may be surprised when I tell them I bought it by faith. It is a gift. Yes, by sowing and reaping. It was at a home-coming conference at the Miracle Centre Cathedral and Pastor Imelda Namutebi of Liberty Worship Centre gave it to me. That was it. Now I have a vehicle in my name. I had been praying for a vehicle for long but not a Mitsubishi Pajero, to be exact I was praying for a small one like a Subaru Forester or Toyota Ipsum and God surprised me.

You man, you are so in love with the vehicle, anyway, I am told Pajeros are fuel guzzlers, how much do you spend on fuel each week?
I spend about Shs200,000 a week, that is if I have not moved out of town. I remember one day I went to refuel, at the same fuel station I usually go but I do not know what was wrong with the pump attendant, I told her I needed petrol worth Shs20,000 but before I knew the pump was reading Shs200,000 and was still rising.

Do you have a tool box in the boot?
Come on, that is a rare item. Now that you have talked about it, I should move to Kisekka Market for one, because mechanics will charge you for almost anything, including replacing or tightening a loose bolt.

When did you learn driving?
I started driving in December last year. My best experience is the practical boda boda riders on our roads who are so much needed but many are mad. I think I have a magnet for boda bodas, they surround the car. You have to be careful or might cause an accident. I detest people who walk unmindful of the driver who stops to allow them cross and they cross as though they have the whole day to cross.

What is the highest speed you have ever driven and where were you going?
I was going to Jinja for ministry and I was late so I was driving at 100kph and I was unaware of all this until I looked at the gauge. The faster the vehicle was the softer everything looked.

Who washes your car?
If I can do the dishes, I can wash my car, but when I am so occupied, I give it to someone that I trust.

Is this your dream car?
Are you kidding me? Though it is close to one of them, it is not my dream car. You know dreams and cars are like food and appetite, insatiable. Now that I know how it feels to drive a Pajero, I want to know how it is like having a Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes Benz or Hummer. It is not bad to own a trailer either.
