Cars that have ruled 2017

The year 2017 has seen a number of cars come through. Some have continued to dominate the market while new brands have pronounced their arrival and taken the market by storm. Below we look at some of the cars that dominated 2017.

Spacio
The Corolla Spacio is a five-door compact multipurpose vehicle, which was first released in 1997. It has three generations. The first one runs from 1997 to 2001.
The second generation, which has by far outsold a number of other cars, was first released in 2001 with its last production coming in 2007.
The third generation produced between 2004 and 2009 is still less visible on the Ugandan market perhaps because it was built for the US and European market.
The car maintains a competitive resale value because of its fuel efficiency and relatively high ground clearance compared to other cars in its category.

Toyota Wish
The Toyota Wish, for some reason or the other, has been more visible on Ugandan than many traditional car brands.
It was first produced in 2003, going through different modifications. It is as a six or seven-seater car, equipped with either a 1.8 or 2.0 litre engine.
It is positioned below the Ipsum and above the Spacio in the Toyota minivan range. It has two generations with the first running between 2003 and 2009 while the second one runs from 2009 to present.
The six-seater car has a wide boot area and a high fuel efficiency that runs on the 1.8cc engine. It is an ideal family car.

Toyota Vitz
For more than five years now, Toyota Vitz has been one of the best popular choices for young and corporate Ugandan drivers.
The five-door hatchback subcompact car, which also comes in the three-door category, has been in production since 1999 and has gone through different modifications.
Now in its third generation, the first two generations had by 2010, achieved in excess of 4.9 million sales in over 70 countries, 1.4 million of which were sold in Japan.
It has three generations with the second one being the most popular on the Ugandan market.

Toyota Rav4
It is a compact crossover which was first produced in 1994.
For more than 15 years, Rav4 has maintained a rare popularity among Ugandan drivers even as many drivers point out its lack of comfort compared to other SUVs in its category.
It has a high clearance ground which makes it ideal for upcountry travel and tough road terrain
The car offers increased cargo room, higher visibility and the option of full-time four-wheel drive, along with a relatively high level of fuel economy.
It comes in two categories - three-door and five-door options with the former offering more passenger space of five compared to four.
It has three generations with the first and second being the most popular on the Ugandan market. It also has a high resale value.

Volkswagen Golf
It is a compact small family hatchback that is rated as one of the most valuable cars on the Ugandan market.
It was first manufactured in 1974 going through a number of modifications that started with the first to the current seventh generation.

In the recent past it has been more visible on Ugandan roads with the fourth generation taking up competition with the likes of Toyota Rav4 and Vitz.
