What you need to know:

The white patches that form on the exterior of your car can be annoying. However, Roland Nasasira explains how you can deal with them.

After driving your car for a while, it is inconveniencing to find that some parts, especially the exterior of the bonnet and above the roof, have started losing colour or are becoming white. This is as a result of a number of factors, both environmental and mechanical.

Causes of patches
Martin Ssenabulya, a mechanic at CKK Motor Garage in Wandegeya, explains how heat from the engine can be to blame. it causes the outside part of the bonnet to start changing from its initial colour to a pale one. He adds, “When a car is parked outside in the cold on a daily basis, the dew that forms on the car body penetrates the car paint overtime and causes it to develop patches.”
Additionally, Ssenabulya explains that when the hardener, a car spray component that was mixed in the initial car spray, is inadequate and not given ample time to dry thoroughly, it may also cause the car body to develop patches.
“When the car has just been sprayed and it is parked outside in the open at night, it causes the car body to develop patches,” Ssenabulya notes, adding by advising that to prevent reoccurrence of patches, it is recommended that you leave the car under a shade for a day to let the paint to dry.

How to get rid of patches
He explains that buffing the entire car body and spraying it again is the most effective way of getting rid of car patches.
The same procedure of buffing is used when the car has small scratches only that with them, it may not require buffing the entire car body; only the scratched parts are buffed.
Ssenabulya notes that the cost of the heat insulator beneath the car bonnet is determined by the size of the car.
You will, therefore, find that the price of a heat insulator of a Toyota Premio is notbe the same as that of Toyota land cruiser VX.
