Shell holds safety drive

By Jude Katende

Recently,Vivo Energy (VE) employees and contractors reflected and focused on risks that they are exposed to on a daily basis, best practice from across the group and improvements that can be made to further strengthen VE’s industry-leading safety performance. This is under the theme of “Safety is in our hands. Drive it at home, at work and on the road,” said Christian Chammas, CEO VE.

“Our commitment to health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) is fundamental, enduring and non-negotiable and is the starting point for everything that we do: in our operations and the communities in which we operate and with all our customers and suppliers” says “Our performance to date has been positive, with key metrics showing that we have met or exceeded our tough targets in vital areas,” Chammas notes.

In 2013 VE delivered industry leading safety performance across the 16 countries in which it operates in Africa with a total recordable case frequency of 0.35 and a lost time injury frequency of 0.25.

In Uganda, VE employees visited and conducted site safety discussions at selected Shell service stations to engage the station employees to help them appreciate safety measures at each station that require attention in their day to day operations.

“Safety is an integral part of the daily operations at all fuel stations and by all VE transporters and employees and must be taken very seriously,” said Hans Paulsen, managing director, VE Uganda.
