Why does my engine misfire?

2004 Jaguar S Type engine

What you need to know:

  • A physical inspection will rule out coil suppressor boot failure or leaking vacuum. Let me know how it goes.

Paul, I bought a 2004 Jaguar S Type from Japan but the engine is misfiring. The service bay mechanic suggested that we replace the spark plugs and I bought six of them from a Bosch shop but the car still misfires. What do you suggest I do? Mark Sentamu.

Hello Mark, the Jaguar S Type ignition system may have faulty ignition coils, leaking coil suppressor boots or a leaking engine vacuum system. These work together to ensure prompt delivery of charge to ignite the spark plugs.

The vacuum system helps to stabilise the engine running using engine blow by gas. A computer diagnosis will identify ignition coil failure if it is the culprit.

A physical inspection will rule out coil suppressor boot failure or leaking vacuum. Let me know how it goes.
