Centenary’s MD takes over as chairman of Bankers’ association

Kampala. “The extent of your vision is the abundance of your blessing.”
These were the words of the outgoing chairman of the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) and outgoing managing director of Citi bank Uganda Limited, Mr Chinedu Ikwudinma, speaking at his farewell dinner on Friday.
Mr Ikwudinma is leaving Citibank Uganda to take up a new role as country risk manager for Citibank’s largest franchise in Africa in Nigeria, with effect from May 2015.

Incoming chairman of UBA Fabian Kasi, hailed Mr Ikwudinma for his inspirational leadership and expression of humour during their monthly meetings with the governor.
As UBA chairman, Mr Chinedu spearheaded a number of initiatives during his tenure which, among others, include; setting up a strong committee of UBA and spearheading the establishment of the financial literacy programme championed by UBA.
Deputy governor Bank of Uganda, Louis Kasekende, described Ikwudinma as a mentor whose vast knowledge of banking has made him a key resource in the banking industry.

“During his six-year tenure at the helm of Citibank, the bank has recorded only one bad loan. Its capital levels have been maintained at an average ratio of 34 per cent to risk weighted assets during this period,” said Mr Kasekende.
Among Mr Ikwudinma’s achievements at Citibank was failure to record any fraud, earning a satisfactory rating from Bank of Uganda. .
Mr Kasekende said Citibank Uganda weathered the storm that hit its parent company in the US in the 2008 credit crunch.

Who is Ikwudinma?
Mr Chinedu Ikwudinma joined Citi bank in 2009 as managing director, a position he has held for six years. He has been the chairman of Uganda Bankers’ Association. He has also been a key player in the launch of the financial literacy campaign which aims at educating the public about the different bank products.
