Chinese firm signs Shs11m partnership for school bursaries

WAKISO. Brilliant but financially needy students at Luyanzi College, Bweyogerere in Wakiso District have reason to smile after the school and a Chinese firm signed a partnership for bursaries.
Chinese construction firm Henan Guoji Group on November 4 committed Shs10.8m to cater for the education needs of four financially disadvantaged students at the school every year.

Speaking at the ceremony at the school to hand over the bursaries, Mr Ismael Mulindwa, a commissioner from Ministry of Education, commended the donation and thanked the Chinese for promoting the Chinese language.
“We are very grateful for the scholarships. The scholarships enhance and promote the existing bilateral cooperation and relationship between Uganda and China,” said Mr Mulindwa.

Ms Shen Jie, the managing director of Mirembe Villas, one of the contributors to the scholarship programme, said education of disadvantaged student is important.
“We have very many Chinese that are passionate to help the local people especially in education sector. We believe through education students can develop this country,” said Ms Shen.
