In Summary
The forum will seek to improve the management of oil and gas in EA
Uganda will between January 23 and 24 host the East African forum on Oil and Gas management for inclusive and sustainable resource development in the region and Africa as a whole.
Themed: ‘A regional approach to managing natural resources based on evidence’, the forum will bring together participants from the public sector, private sector, and civil society with the intention of improving their ability to engage in dialogue and thoroughly discuss issues related to the exploitation and trading of the natural resources in the region.
‘In the exploitation and management of natural resources, there are many issues that cannot be handled efficiently from a national perceptive.
A regional approach makes certain that all relevant stakeholders are provided the ability and allowed to participate in the design of policies that affect them,” reads part of the statement issued last week
Oil and gas are unique natural resources that have lately become common among East African countries.
Each of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania has either oil or gas or both, much of which has been discovered recently.
Additionally, South Sudan, a new state with close ties to East Africa has several oil fields.
It is thus important that these states get enough preparation on how to efficiently and in an equitable manner handle such resources.
