Spark TV starts airing on Dstv

Audience. The TV channel broadcasts exclusively to women.

Kampala. Dstv and GOtv Uganda, both products of Multichoice officially announced that Spark Tv, the first TV to exclusively broadcast to women in Uganda, has started airing on Dstv.


Making the announcement in Kampala on Monday at the Kampala Serena International Conference Centre, Mr Albert Nga, the marketing manager of Gotv, said: “Spark TV is now airing on GOtv channel 390 and Dstv channel 285, and I would like encourage those who have not yet purchased Dstv to buy fully connected Dstv and GOtv kits at only Shs132, 500.”


Commenting on the partnership between Spark TV and Multichoice, Mr Charles Hamya, the general manager Multichoice Uganda, said: “We are proud of the fact that we have lived up to our promise of enriching lives and providing customers with local content that they can resonate with. We stand by our decision to continually expand and enrich our channel line out of respect and adherence to customer demands with content they can better identify with.”

Female audience
According to Ms Agnes Asiimwe Konde, the managing director NTV Uganda and Spark TV, the partnership is intended to leverage on the geographical reach of local content designed for female audiences.


She said: “It gives us great pride to realise that we have shared vision with Multichoice to promote and elevate content for the female audiences. The woman of today needs to be inspired, uplifted through inspirational programming that will make them better citizens.”
Ms Konde added: “We are glad that this partnership will enable us reach many more homes and offices tapping into the geographical reach and subscriber base of DStv and GOtv subscribers. This partnership will aid us achieve greater empowerment of the woman which is our ultimate aim through educational and inspiring programming.”


Spark TV programming is designed to air local content suitable for female audiences.
Listing a number of these programmes, Mr Peter Kabba, the project manager at Spark TV, announced the airing of local news on the platform.


He said: “There was demand from our viewers for a news broadcast and so starting tonight at 9:45pm, we will be airing Luganda news on Spark TV, which will be anchored by a female team.”


“We look forward to bringing to our viewers inspiring community news that builds the nation, from within and bordering Uganda, and I promise you it is surely going to be big,” Mr Frank Walusimbi, who is preparing the team, said.


Mr Kabba also encouraged viewers to download the VID TV app, saying: “Spark TV is not only watched on physical TV. Viewers can now download VID TV app from play store to be able to watch Spark TV live at any time or place around the world.”
Mr Nga expressed his gratitude to the partnership saying: “Today we are happy that this channel has joined us. I believe it is time for us to give our viewers the best and what adds value to them.”
