Entebbe Airport gets in-flight restaurant

Airlines are likely to be saved from the burden of airlifting food

Entebbe Airport has inaugurated an in-flight restaurant, with the view of saving airlines the cost of airlifting food from other countries.

The development is likely to see airlines register a decline on costs incurred on fuel due to baggage load as well as saving more space for carriage of other commodities.

Speaking at the inauguration of the restaurant, Mr William Byaruhanga, the director Uganda In-flight Services, said: “We have invested $7million in constructing a modern catering unit with quality management systems which are hazard free.”

He said our partners - Newrest in-flight company, a French global leader in multi-sector catering, will give us professional support in relation to the management of the unit.

This comes amid increasing expenditure on food after a number of airlines rejected supplies from Uganda over concerns ranging from hygiene, pricing and standards.

Mr Byaruhanga said Newrest comes with international expertise that we hope will go a long way in instilling confidence in airline operators to support the unit.

Mr Oliver Sadran, the Newrest chief executive officer, said the restaurant would ensure that clients are served with high quality products as well as putting hygiene as a standard measure for all services.
