Entebbe Airport to open daily flights to China

By Stephen Otage

KAMPALA- Entebbe Airport will open direct flights to and from China starting next year.

This comes after China Southern Airlines Company Limited opening shop in Kampala to start ground work for the flights from Entebbe to Guangzhou city in China.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Kampala office on Wednesday, Mr Abdul Monem Zein, the senior sales executive manager Middle East Region and Dubai office said the Kampala office is the first in Africa before opening others in Kenya and Tanzania in the coming two months.

Asked what has motivated the company to open an office in Uganda, Mr Monem said although the company has been having collaboration with the Kenya Airways, opening an office there could not be as fast as it was with Uganda because of protocols which need to be finalised.

“Kenya Airways has direct flights to China which connect through Dubai but we do not have offices in Kenya because of protocols which need to be finalised. But we shall be opening offices there and Tanzania in the coming two months,” he said.
On the special interest in Uganda, he said China is opening its market to the world but it is looking at Uganda’s tourism potential.

“We have many Ugandan businessmen who travel to China and as you know, China has one of the biggest markets which we are opening to the whole world,” Mr Monem said.
