Kalyegira is new Capital Markets chief executive

Kampala- The former First Renaissance Securities chief, Mr Keith Kalyegira, has been appointed chief executive officer of Capital Markets Authority (CMA) Uganda.
He replaces Mr Japheth Katto who retires at the end of this year after 16 years in the position.

Mr Kalyegira has a wealth of experience in investment management, financial oversight, and regulatory roles having worked as Head of the Parastatal Monitoring Unit and Privatisation Utility Sector Reform Project under the ministry of Finance and chief investment officer at National Social Security Fund.

Work experience
He also worked with Shell as an Aviation Commercial Manager in charge of Southern and East Africa, Commercial Manager and Area Finance Manager at Shell Aviation Ltd, Operations Advisor and Commercial Manager - Aviation at Shell South Africa, as well as an Aviation Manager at Shell Uganda among others.

Over the last two years, Mr Kalyegira, who previously served on the Uganda Securities Exchange governing council, has been working as a consultant on various business and infrastructure financing projects in the region.

He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
Katto said: “Given his vast experience in the private and public sectors, and particularly the capital markets, I have no doubt that Keith will take Uganda’s capital market to the next level. “He understands the industry and the environment in which it operates extremely well.”

Mr Grace Kavuma, CMA board chairman pledged the board’s support to ensure that the market grows to greater heights and the Authority continues to be well governed.
“The board is confident that Mr Kalyegira will provide the right leadership in driving the Authority and industry forward,” he said.

Mr Kalyegira said he was looking forward to building on the firm foundation laid by the previous and current teams, to grow Uganda’s capital market.
