Solar product chain to serve low, high end consumers

By Jonathan Adengo

Kampala. A product chain of solar products has been launched in Uganda offering customers a wide selection of solar products.

Mr Peter Mubanda, the Executive Director at Mwafrika Solar, a solar product chain company while addressing the media at the launch of the company in Kampala recently, said they started the company to provide solutions to people who don’t have access to power.

He said they serve both low and high end consumers. “We are going to operate like a supermarket. We want people to walk into our shops and choose the solar products they want,” Mubanda said, adding: “We are setting up in 50 major towns.”

The company, which opened its shops this year, has five dearlships in Kampala and one in each of the towns of Entebbe, Jinja, Masaka, Gulu, Arua, Masindi, Lira, Adjumani, Tororo, Hoima, Mbarara, Fort Portal and Soroti.

Mr Mubanda revealed that they are also partnering with consumer financing institutions to help Ugandans easily access their solar products.

It has so far partnered with Pride Microfinance, Opportunity Bank, Postbank and Vision Fund. Customers of the above financial institutions will have an opportunity to buy solar products at affordable interest rates.
