DHL, an international express and logistics company, will this year invest in business trainings aimed at equipping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the technical skills required to compete globally, Mr Charles Brewer, the DHL managing director for Sub-Saharan Africa, has said.

While addressing media this week, Mr Brewer noted these trainings are aimed at furnishing SMEs with knowledge on how to carry out transactions globally with minimal or no losses.
“As we continue to expand our footprint in Uganda, we strongly believe that our customers and potential customers need to be trained on how to flourish globally. DHL believes that with right partners, guidance and support, more Ugandan SMEs will go global and excel,” Mr Brewer said.

DHL notes that the funds to facilitate the training are part of its proposed investment into Uganda for the next 12 months. The other resources will go to acquiring more facilities and retail expansion mainly outside Kampala.

However, the company was reluctant to provide its actual investment figures for the next year with its country manager, Ms Asteway Desta saying; “…due to our financial guidelines, we are currently in the quiet period and can’t comment on actual figures around investment.”
