Government takes over Utl from Libyan company Ucom

Uganda government has taken over the affairs and management of Uganda telecom limited with immediate effect.
Announcing government takeover from the Libyan com Ucom this afternoon, the minister of finance, planning and economic development, Mr Matia Kasaija said government has received notification from u com of the following decisions- that ucom will no longer avail funding to the com it'll,directed the resignation of all the five representatives of Ucom on the Utl board.

UTL has been making the headlines especially after questions around it survival are being asked in a select committee in Parliament.

Some of the managers pinned in the irregular deals include Stephen Kaboyo, UTL Board chairman, Moses Mwase, Director in charge of Privatisation at the Ministry of Finance


"In light of the above government has decided to take over the affairs and management of Utl with immediate effect, and will engage Ucom to ensure an orderly transition," he said.
However, Mr Kasaijja assured UTL customers, stakeholders and the general public that the company would remain operational with full support from government.
