Mobile TV to assist in digital migration

Ugandans are likely to benefit from mobile television technology which seeks to enhance the switch from analogue to digital broadcasting.

The technology currently on the market is delivered through television set like devices backed by the capacity to deliver images through digital platforms including StarTimes.

Mr Kevin Chen, the StarTimes chief executive officer, said the technology used on mobile devices has the capacity to operate like a normal television set and can be fixed with all the channels available on any particular platform.

He said the technology provides an alternative avenue for the delivery of digital television and enhancing the digital migration process.

Uganda has in the last three years heightened efforts seeking to migrate from analogue to digital migration.

The country had set December 30, 2012 as the switching deadline; however, the government recently announced that it would shift the deadline
