Technology has made it easy for the world to become a global village and Rachel Kanyoro spoke to experts about some of the technologies we might find hard to live without.

We all use technology to accomplish various tasks in our lives and it can be applied in almost everything we do. Technology is dynamic and it keeps improving because our demands and needs for it keep changing too. We, therefore, look at some of the technologies that eased our lives.

INTERNET
Nada Andersen a tech enthusiast and director at Star Leo says it is hard to remember a time when the Internet was not available to us.
People had to do their correspondence using letters that we had to send through the post office and had to wait for two weeks or more to actually get a reply. Now we can do everything from corresponding with our foreign pals online through emails, we can do online banking, blogging, telecommuting, shopping online and social networking, among others.

CELLPHONES/ SMARTPHONES
Michael Nyitegeka, an IT specialist and consultant says the phone probably ranks the highest in all the technologies and for whichever class you belong to, it is hard not to find someone that owns this technology.
The phone, especially the smartphone people has become a must have at this point in time and with it comes the amenities such as emails and social media.
Remember the time when there were no cellphones and in order to make a call, you had to go to the payphone or to the post office to make calls. Now most people, even in the most rural areas, own a cellphone. With the arrival of smarthones, technology went through the roof and now you can almost do anything with your phone on the go. With the use of a cellphone, you can pay for bills and buy stuff online, among other things.

RADIO
Radio is one of the predominate technologies that is here to stay. Michael Nyitegeka, an IT specialist says we could talk about the television set but because of mobility, it becomes a useless venture and yet radio penetration is wider.
“You will find a radio even in the remotest places, leave alone the issue that almost every phone has a radio, and think about the cars. People have more access to the radio than any other thing,” he points out.

DIGITAL TV AND CAMERAS
With the switch from analogue to digital TV that will be mandatory for all those that own television, this technology will be hard to ignore. The era of analogue TV is now in the past and soon digital will be the way to go. With satellite TV, you are able to watch as many channels as you wish.
It is human nature to want to record every moment of their life. How we managed to live life without cameras is almost hard to imagine. Now the digital camera has become part of the phone and all you have to do is take a picture and you do not have to wait for it to be developed. You just have to point, shoot and click and download to any social websites that you have an account with.

GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM
This comes in at the end because not everybody will find it as a must have. But now, if you are lost, all you have to do is consult your GPS and directions will be availed to you in no time. You have a meeting or you are new in a place you will no longer need to burden yourself with maps that are not only hard to read but also add unnecessary clutter to you. Now phones have GPS on it and also some cars now come installed with this technology. All you have to do is type in your destination and the GPS will guide you there.
