Kamajugo leaves as been one of the highest ranking officers at Uganda Revenue Authority

Kampala. Uganda Revenue Authority commissioner for customs, Mr Richard Kamajugo, will at the end of the month quit after serving the tax body for 16 years.
Mr Kamajugo has been one of the highest ranking officials after he assumed position of commissioner in charge of customs nine years ago.
His exit follows the retirement of Ms Allen Catherine Kagina, who also exited the tax body in April last year.
However, she was this month appointed executive director, Uganda National Roads Authority.

Mr Kamajugo rose through the ranks serving as principal revenue officer, assistant commissioner trade before replacing Mr Peter Malinga as commissioner for customs nearly nine years ago.
Mr Kamajugo had been tipped as the closest contender for the URA top job after the exit of Ms Kagina, however, the job was taken over by Ms Doris Akol, the former URA commissioner in charge of legal affairs.
Speaking in an interview on Monday in Kampala, Mr Kamajugo said he was happy for the transformation he had spearheaded at the tax body considering that: “Things like clearing goods were considered favours yet it shouldn’t be that way. But now if a delay goes for more than 24 hours then that becomes an issue. So this tells you how much we have transformed as an institution over the years.”

He was also instrumental in the creation of East Africa’s single custom territory as well as improving the speed of goods clearance at Mombasa Port in Kenya.
