Kampala. Ibrahim Kaddunabbi Lubega, the chief executive officer of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda and the chairperson of the East African Insurance supervisors Association, has been elected as president of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO).

He was elected by insurance practitioners on the African continent with 351 corporate entities and will take over from Mr Bachir Baddou of Morocco, the out-going president.
Parliament last week passed a motion moved by Rubanda Member of Parliament Henry Musasizi to honour Mr Kaddunabbi for being elected the AIO president.

Deputy speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah described Mr Kaddunabbi’ s appointment as a unique opportunity for Uganda to improve insurance service delivery in the country.

Mr Kaddunabbi becomes the first Ugandan from Insurance Regulatory Authority to head AIO as president. He served in the 8th parliament as MP representing Butambala County.

While speaking to Daily Monitor, he revealed plans to develop the AIO Executive Committee Charter to streamline the operations of the executive and redefine the roles of executive members since they are representatives from the different African countries.

“I will also ensure that the Executive committee members pronounce themselves on at least one capital development project like acquisition of land for the AIO Center of Excellence,” said Mr Kaddunabbi.
