Youth to benefit from national agriculture show, says minister

ENTEBBE. Several youth are to benefit from source of the Nile national agriculture show which is to be officially launched today by President Museveni in Jinja District, minister has said.
This is the 26th show to be hosted in Uganda.

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja said yesterday that government’s mission is to transform agriculture from being pre-dominantly subsistence to commercial for food security, increased household incomes and promoting exports.
‘’We recognize the need to empower sector players especially the youth with Knowledge of opportunities along the value chain, including value addition and marketing from which one can earn income without going to the farm because most of the young people in Uganda are unemployed. So we are sure that they will learn a lot from this show,’’ he said.

He further noted that since 80 percent of the households are engaged in agriculture, there are many innovations aimed at increasing production and productivity that have been introduced, and most of which are to be displayed on the show.
