Full Woman

Strength of a woman

Before she goes to bed, she must ensure everything is ready for the next day. But with baby in the house, it is interrupted night’s sleep. And dont forget that this woman also works, writes Stella Nakakande

I have never been to the labour ward; at least no to give birth but I have afforded a peep into it and do not ask me how or why. It is said labour pain is incomparable and even those who have the C-section may not escape the pain; the wound comes with its hurdles.

During labour, first-time mothers may swear not to get pregnant again, but they still do. And it sure does take a lot of guts to get in there, not once but at least twice or more. It takes a woman.

Shaggy sang about it and before him, it seems the whole world knew it too; a date was set aside to recognise the “strength of a woman.” March 8, it is and it’s celebrated every year all over the world.

And at my grandparent’s home, everything only makes sense when my grandmother is in the house. She decides what food is going to be cooked for lunch and supper, decides what the family will have for breakfast and when she is away, the entire home is in a mess.
It only hit me recently that soon, I would have to do this as a woman/wife. And I thought it was all effortless until I had to take a turn at it. Deciding what I would want to eat is already hard enough and now imagine doing it for a whole family that relies entirely on your judgment.

And she is not the only one; all women have to do this at least some time in their lives and in today’s world, coupled with work. So a woman goes to work, takes care of the home, looks after the children and pampers the husband who has also been at work and expects to come home to a well-cooked meal and a nice warm bath.
Some will argue she does not have to cook the food, but then again, she is still up on her feet supervising the outcome and not seated relaxing on the couch. Not that she minds, but most of the time, she enjoys it all, looking after her husband and children, besides, if she won’t, who will?

Before she goes to bed, she must ensure everything is ready for the next day. But with baby in the house, it is always interrupted night’s sleep and over the weekend, it’s doing the laundry and cleaning ahead of the coming week.

And don’t forget the fact that this woman also works. She must ready the children for school and her husband for work. Their uniforms and clothes plus breakfast must be ready.

She may sometimes skip breakfast because her husband is impatiently waiting for her in the car and hooting like crazy wondering why she is taking forever to get out of the house. So who out there can truly doubt the strength of a woman?
