Do you own a jumpsuit? Yes? No?

Well, if you do not have a jumpsuit yet in your wardrobe, it is probably high time you got one.

“The beauty about jumpsuits is that they are very comfortable, and, are very functional because of their pockets,” designer Beau Varcoe says.
He says he chose the kitenge because he wanted something with more exciting colours and patterns.

The key to a great jumpsuit is its fitting. The waist should be cinched at the smallest part of your waist or right below it for the most flattering fit.

We all have different body types, so one jumpsuit may fit someone else perfectly while another may fit you the best. Depending on your needs and budget, you can therefore, have one custom-made for you by a professional tailor.

Try different types of styles to see what works; short, wide-leg, cuffed at the ankle or sleeveless.

Many jumpsuits currently available also have a drawstring at the waist, which helps one attain a crisp, tailored fit. The material can be bought from a number of fabric stores in town.

The price of jumpsuits varies according to where you buy from. These kitenge jumpsuits from the Beau Sapeur label cost between Shs140,000 and Shs250,000.

Where and when to wear the jumpsuit
Recently a friend went to work in a jumpsuit she thought was good enough for the corporate world. Her boss on the other hand was less than impressed. She in fact scolded her for it and cautioned her against wearing the one piece wonder to office.

According to Varcoe, these kitenge jumpsuits can be worn anywhere. However, when wearing a jumpsuit for work, make sure it is tailored in office-appropriate colours such as navy, black, or charcoal grey, or in pinstripes. To complete the look, add a blazer.
“You do not have to restrict yourself. For example, if your workplace or profession does not have a strict dress code, why not opt for one of these? But also, if you are the kind of person who loves going out for parties or festivals, the kitenge-inspired jumpsuit is the ideal one for you,” says Varcoe.

For formal events, go bold with a pop of colour. Rich hues such as cherry red or a deep purple add elegance to a one piece ensemble, especially when they are made with luxurious fabrics such as silk or velvet.
Finish the look with nude pumps and a sparkly clutch.
