Keep the kitchen towel dry

Every time I have guests at my house I am more cautious and particular about the vessels like the mugs and glasses. Of course I have a house help but this issue I take into my own hands 110 per cent.

I have been on the receiving end of a glass of passion fruit juice whenupon raising the glass to drink I was met with a rather unpleasant ordour that made finishing the juice rather impossible.

Because I have experienced this in my house, I was not unforgiving. When a glass or mug is wiped down with a towel that is damp, it leaves an unpleasant ordour.

It is not uncommon to find kitchen towels hanging on hooks. The tricky thing with this method is that the towels do not get to dry fast enough thereby staying damp and acquiring an ordour. I always wondered why the towels in my auntie’s kitchen seemed to dry all the time compared to mine. It took me a good number of months to figure out why and this is the reason; the number of occupants in the home.

If there are many occupants in a home, it means that a lot of plates and cups will be used often putting the kitchen towel to a lot of use. Now, hanging it by the hook means that some wet parts are exposed to air circulation while others are folded hence the dampness.

Seeing as I do not have any plans of reducing the number of people in my household anytime soon in favour of the kitchen towels, I had to come up with a solution.

Thinking out of the box I realised that one could use towel rails designed for bathroom use. These would work well because firstly, they have more than one rail which means you can hang more than one towel in one go.

Also, because they are designed for bath towels they have a wide width, wide enough to comfortably spread a kitchen towel as if it were hanging on a line.
This goes a long way in helping them dry fast.
