An empowering encounter with Koffi Olomide’s dancers

What you need to know:

Confidence. The message that evening was clear; love yourself, huge tummy, small legs and all, writes Flora Aduk.

By now you have read the reviews on the Koffi Olomide show. It was awesome. You must have also seen the photos of his queen dancers in their hot pants. Pity still photography cannot do justice to how skillfully, albeit seductively, they were moving their bodies.

My girls and I screamed as we unleashed those Lingala strokes. We felt a new kind of energy, especially whenever the queen dancers took the stage. It had nothing to do with their flexible waistlines though or brown thighs that one of our male neighbours couldn’t get enough of. It had all to do with the mothers’ brigade “uniform”.

That annoying tummy you wish you couldmove into a gym to get rid of. But well, have since gotten used to finding the right outfit to tuck it away. The queen dancers wore theirs proudly, gyrating their waists in ways indescribable in this article.
Those flat bellied video vixens and queen dancers had nothing on these women. It just shows how confidence goes a long way to bring out the appeal of one.

The whole evening I was thinking that if there were auditions for dancers, most or majority of those without flat tummies would not have turned up, fearing that they were not capable and imagining that only the former would be chosen.

The message that evening was loud and clear; love yourself, huge tummy, big bottom, small legs and all. Who for instance capitalized on the women’s bellies when they saw how they moved their bodies.

Just because the baby weight won’t go in some places doesn’t mean you have to trade your “hot” outfits for unflattering ones. Granted that “campus” figure may forever be elusive, but your personality just won’t change like that.

Just because the kawaro is not waspy doesn’t mean you cannot pull those awesome strokes you had back in the day. Nature may have “killed” your body, but it sure can’t kill your soul girl. Disclaimer though, celebrating the body you have doesn’t mean you should shun the gym visits if only to keep fit and healthy.
A celebration of yourself in whatever form or shape is what makes life worth it. Don’t be the spoiler.
