MAN TALK: Dear Mother...

man talk

Jamie
...it is not to sink low to clichés when I say there is no one like you; there will never be. All those times you wiped your brow but still kept around when I was burning with a fever, or the times your forehead furrowed because I’d slipped and fallen over, they are raw in my mind. Even when it seemed I didn’t care or took it all for granted, just know, I loved you more every time.

I bask in your love, secure in knowing you are the one woman crowd, the Number One fan I’d take any given game day. Every little thing you ever did, many times unconsciously for me, they stuck. Any good attributes I might have are straight from your goodness, I know. You made the man I am today. Happy Mother’s Day.

Benjie
...none loves me as unconditionally as you always have. You taught me life's best virtues and somehow, turned me into the man that I have become today. There were times when I troubled you so much. Nights when you stayed awake waiting and praying for me, not sure where I was but you never gave up on me.

You have taught me to trust and even when you have grown frail and a lot has changed between us, I know that it is you who understands me the most. And even on days you do not understand the choices I make or what I am going through, you do not judge me, you simply trust me to be my best. For mothering me, and turning me into the best I could ever be, thank you isn't enough. You know I love you.

Eugene Mugisha
... thank you for the scarifices you have had to make so that we could get the best chance in life; that you never gave up, even when everything around us was collapsing; that you built a life of security and fulfilment for us when you had nothing.

That even when we were lost in confusion, you never stopped believing in us; that everything we are, from our genetic make up, to our character, our pride and confidence, its all you; and simply knowing that you always are there for us, we can always count on you Mother. With a touch only a mother can possess, you show us how to learn from our mistakes, overcome our fears, and bring joy to those we affect.

For the times you were tough, I now understand that you were being wise. i may be grown up, but everyday my decisions are molded by your guidance. We don’t get to choose the parents we get, but if I had a choice, I would choose you everytime. My mother, my best teacher, my oldest and very first friend.

Your babies,
Lucy and Bob.
