I do not think I have had the liberty to make my mind up about how I feel about Valentines Day. By the time I noticed its existence, I must have already been dating (I think so, because I cannot quite recall when this was). I’m, however, sure that it was not a bouquet of flowers from a loved one that jolted me into awareness. Anything else but that. Those guys had sure passed up the day!

As far as Valentines goes, cupid chose a raw deal for me; I have not had a guy that made any fuss about the day, or me, on the day! Even today, when the pro-Valentines people are all lovey dovey in anticipation of the day, the haters busy convincing themselves they do not care about not being given any special attention, I’m left in the middle without any definite sentiments about the day.

When it comes, something special I mean, it comes and I’m glad to receive it. When it does not, well, I have survived many years without anything, so, I survive on I guess. Anyways, one of these pre-Valentine’s Days as I made my way to work I thought about red, the colour red, and how, although it is the Valentines Day colour (don’t ask me why or how-I found it thus), almost everyone I know makes it a point not to be caught dead in it on the day. So, I thought, “what exactly does red mean anyway? Wouldn’t pink have made a better colour for the day; it seems more friendly than the fiery red after all.”

It went on and on, the thought, until I was wondering why red anyway, thinking there must have been a pretty good reason, probably from its meaning? And hence was born the story on colours and their meanings as I went on rampage in search of colour meanings. And this will be our giving to you this Valentines Day.

While the other publications go up in arms tiping you on love, sex, romance and whatever other obvious things go into celebrating the day, we have thought about fashion and dress, which factors into Valentines celebrations quite intensely as well. May the knowledge therein give you the freedom to wear whatever you want, empowered by the ability to confidently explain your choice away.

For those alone come this February 14th day of the year, be encouraged; there is research that proves that there are health benefits of being single. Find out how on page three. Besides, you do not have to be in a heterosexual relationship to share love! Determine to be open-minded this year.

On more warding things, there is an opportunity for you to win a treat for two at the Sheration Hotel Kampala for a splendid treat. Just listen to D’Mighty Breakfast show on Kfm or buy a copy of Monitor to find out how to win. May the the couple most in love, or may be that in need of a love boost and making the effort to get one, win.

Happy Valentines Day!
