How men really feel about Christmas

What you need to know:

Oh, Christmas is a joy for most women, but how do men feel about it? They let us know.

When we were younger, Christmas, especially in the village made a world of difference. Today, it is just but like any other day. We eat, drink, talk to loved ones and that’s it. Women should desist from expecting too much from men. Stories abound of women cutting wires because hubby did not buy a gift worth the day. Really?

Then they expect the man to buy the kids and all her relatives gifts. Women, times are hard. Money is no longer as available. Just understand for once. When the regime changes and the economic times are better, we shall do Xmas in Hawai.

I don’t really care much for Christmas, except that it brings a holiday where I don’t really have to work; and I think those that get excited secretly like the season for the same reason.
Therefore, I don’t understand the insistence of special food and festivities but I guess people need something to look forward to after a tough year, and Christmas is just that something.

There are men with large families, those are definitely shuddering at the idea of Christmas approaching, thinking of all the presents they have to buy, the shopping and preparations, the yearly questions, who visits whom, whom to invite and whom not to invite, without hurting anybody, how to achieve the optimal harmony...

And sometimes, the Christmas plans are elaborately contrived, considering the commercial, psychological and personal aspects, the laws of behaviorism and habit, the balance of favour (we were at your parents’ house the last two years, now we have to visit my parents), with every detail delicately puzzled out...

During this period women should not think that Christmas is entirely about them getting presents...they too can give…Christmas is about the birth of Christ, not who is supposed to be buying what for who.

Christmas, weddings, birthday parties. They all fall in the same category of annoying events. It is one of those things that you have to accept as part of life, like getting rained on once in a while. I would do well without Christmas.

And I might be able to tolerate it easier if women didn’t act like they have been living up to this one day for the entire year. The cooking, the Christmas shopping, the traffic jam. It is women who cause traffic jams during Christmas!

Christmas is still an amazing time; a time when even the worst people make an effort to cover up their meanness and be of good cheer.
There is probably something in the water during those days as people will go around with this dazed look on their faces. What women should not do, however, is to try to force their men into boxes. Sometimes, the poor guy has been working the whole year and many save up big for the festive season. Do not try to force him to “get involved, stop being anti-social.”

He might be sitting in the corner nursing his beer while he watches his hard-earned shillings, all those late nights in the taxi going home with suspicious looking characters...all that going down some brother-in-law’s throat, or impossibly huge chicken drumsticks disappearing into some opinionated Senga-in-law’s jaws.

All that might be fine though if the woman in the picture didn’t nag her man so much.
