Oulanyah proves he is not a fool

In the last decade, you used to sing and suddenly stopped. What happened?

That was not really a music career. I suddenly stopped singing because it was something that I used to do for fun together with my colleague Sam Ayo, a news anchor at Capital FM.

Of late, my friends are encouraging me to revive my singing again. It is them who are motivating me to go back to the studio. So, who knows, you may hear another hit from me anytime from now.

Refresh our minds. Which of your songs received massive airplay across various radio stations back then?
There was I’m not A Fool, which was released around 2004, Tondeka in 2007 and Omusolo, whose release year I do not remember.

Various tabloids have previously reported that you normally report to work drunk and that is why you have been fired from your previous workplaces. Are these allegations true?

As you said, those are just allegations. If anyone has proof to support their allegations, they should come out and prove me wrong.

Don’t they know that it is professionally unethical to go to work drunk? I adhere to the rules and regulations that govern the institution of radio.

Why do you think that the tabloids came up with such claims?
Well, it is probably because I am always associated with a drunken personality since I love my beer bottle. I will not dismiss the fact that I enjoy drinking my alcohol. But I never go to work drunk.

At what age did you start drinking?
I started drinking when I was 12 years old at parties.

Has a girl ever broken up with you?
Yes, and it was because of having many demands which I failed to fulfil. She was also not happy with the way I was interacting with other girls.

Do you ever go to bed without showering?
Oh yes, I do. It depends on the circumstances, state of mind and the time I go back home. I will not shower, for instance, when it is very cold or if I am from a late night outing. However, when this happens, I do not sleep on the bed but rather on the couch.

When was the last time you cried?
It was when I held my daughter for the first time at International Kampala Hospital (IHK) right after she was born. It was a very emotional experience for me. She is now one year and seven months old.

Are you married?
No, I am not. However, I am seeing someone special but she is not the mother of my daughter.

If you woke up tomorrow as Nasser Ntege Sebaggala, the 2006/11 Kampala Mayor, what would be the first thing you would say at a press conference?
I would just say whatever came to my mind without minding about my English language.

What is your opinion on his personality?
That guy is my hero. Sebaggala is just too cool. He is so down to earth, straight forward, humorous and very confident even with his broken English.

Why didn’t you finish the law degree you enrolled for immediately after high school?

At that time, I had just started working as a presenter at Capital. I became so engrossed in my work and relaxed on studying. But I went back and I am currently studying the same law course.
If you were given two choices; to either walk on the streets naked in broad daylight or act in a porn movie, what would you choose?

I would gain nothing from walking in the streets naked during day. Therefore, I would rather act in a porn movie because I would get a good pay.
Have you ever gone to work without underwear on?
Yes, I have and it has been mainly because I have washed all of them or simply forgotten to wear one because I am in a hurry to work.

What else do you do besides comedy and radio presenting?
I am a Disc jockey (DJ). I play oldies every Thursday at Triangle Tavern in Kiwatule and on Friday at Mimi’s Tavern in Kisaasi.
