I think it is what my mother meant with “that’s how men are,” every time I expressed dismay at a man’s behaviour. Honestly, there are levels of cluelessness that only a man can reach. On several occasions, I have muttered it under my breath but for the most part, I have defended men thinking they were just being difficult, so we massage their ego, or have more sex with them or something.

Howard J. Smith in his book “Women are crazy, men are stupid” puts it plainly. A good number of men are clueless. Of this number, a portion is the guys I have met and Sam must be their chairman.

You will remember Sam who made a sport of standing me up on almost all our dates. If you met him you would understand why I hang in there; boy, he is gorgeous! Anyway, since the last “no show”, he basically does the calling and I do the ignoring. Until yesterday when he used a strange number.

“I had to wish you a Happy New Year!” that was his enthusiastic opening, as if I was going to suffer some calamity if he did not. He then went ahead to say he does not want to go into the new year with beef between us. Beef? Does he even know the meaning of the word beef? Would he recognise beef if it hit him in the face?

Okay, so I may have a little beef, but I was not losing sleep thinking of how I cannot stand him. (Which, by the way, I cannot). I feel it is terribly presumptuous of him to think that he can call and end it all with a call. However, when he asked why I was not picking his calls, my ire abated.Instead, I was incredulous. He does not understand why I may want to avoid him? Is his pretty head so far up in the clouds that he has no idea what goes on in real life?

I mean, really, if you were regularly communicating with somebody and they cut it off cold turkey, do not ask why, lose their number and move on. Life is not a Spanish soap opera or romance novel where there is always some convincing reason why so and so stopped communicating.

I also cannot believe he did not see anything wrong with his behaviour. How is that even possible? I must have given him more credit in the IQ department than he deserves.

In other news, Mike and I have been going strong for all of four weeks and I still like him. Wish me luck guys, please wish me luck!
