What you need to know:

Burglarproof it. Combine the need for security with enhancing the appearance of your home

To do or not to...that is the question. The word burglarproof is in itself its own definition. So I guess the question is why take the time to reinforce windows with burglarproofing when it is also possible for a thief to lay in wait at your gate and walk into your home with you? I have heard many people debate on whether to ‘disgrace’ their windows and doors with ugly metal. Truth is burglar proofing makes it difficult for thieves to invade you but also acts as a deterrent.

If a potential robber saw burglarproofing on your windows he would have to re-think his strategy because this poses a complication in the plan, as a matter of fact he may change his mind and move on to a softer target...there deterrent!

The trick with burglarproof is in a few factors;
• The motif/ design. Flambouyant and elaborate designs are beautiful but high maintenance. Cleaning in every nook and corner is quite cumbersome.
• The less drama with the design the fewer patterns that come through the curtain net.
• Having burglarproof on the outside is an option one can consider. It’s easier to clean it and the windows as well. Actually with this you can have it as dramatic as you please!
• When installing, have the metal smiths leave a gap of about 2-3 inches from the base of the window. This makes wiping off dirt and dead insects thorough without having ones fingers get hurt or stuck.
• Finally consider the kind of house you have. A simple, small, one or two bedroom house cannot take a multi-flowered burglar proof (it’s too busy making it look tacky) as opposed to a storeyed house.
If you are already stuck with your burglarproof design, camouflage it with double the amount of curtain net usually required for your window that way, the many folds of fabric hide what’s underneath.
Also have distractions like beautiful art on your walls or display cabinets that way your visitors have something interesting to concentrate on than your window.
