Sunglasses that suit your face shape

What you need to know:

  • The rules. Sunglasses are now a must-have accessory, as a fashion statement but also because they help shield you from hot sunrays on a sunny day.
  • For some people, sunglasses are also part of their signature look. For whatever reason, you need the perfect pair for you.

What do you consider as you choose a pair that suits your face shape? Let’s start off with shape. With these ever changing trends and styles, you need to understand the most important features of eyewear, which are colour, shape and design. Each is just as important as the other.

Colour
This is very important. Consider your skin tone, as the colour of the glasses will accentuate that tone beautifully. Considering our dark tones, being adventurous with colour is a bit difficult. Bold hues such as gold and silver make a stand out statement though. You can choose unexpected colours such as purple, red, blue and more, for fashion purposes of course.

Design
Sunglasses, especially designer sunglasses come in a number of styles and shapes to serve a particular purpose. Some are for simply protecting the eyes from UV rays, sports or just as fashion accessories. So be sure to take note of this as you choose the sunglasses to buy.
There are number of designs now, from the thick frames, oversized glasses, animal print frames and more. Design is important as it has to suit your aesthetic. Do you wish to stand out? Or you prefer to stay understated. Bold designs stand out while less detailed designs don’t.

Shopping guide
This is another important factor. Although designer glasses come at a really high price, they last long, are very rare will not be seen to be worn by everyone and their quality is always excellent. Be careful not to go out of your budget as you pursue a trendy pair though, there are countless pairs at different price points.
Take time to find the best deal.

The shade suited for your shape
Consider the shape of your face as you choose the shape of eyewear to buy. You don’t want your sunglasses to fit awkwardly on your face. Here are examples;
• For a square shaped face, wear oversized sunglasses. Curvy styles in round shapes and spiky cat’s eye also work well on this shape, as they complement its angular features.
• For the heart shaped face (triangular), opt for round frames and cat’s eye shapes. Stylish glasses with a wider lower edge and no defined straight line at the top work perfectly well for this shape too.
• For a long face (rectangular), oversized frames in round or rectangular shapes are recommended. These frames can either be thick, or decorative in nature. Anything goes here.
• For a round face, you need definition to your face and the sunglasses you choose have to serve this purpose. Narrow frames and frames with all this interesting detail work well for this shape.
• For an oval shaped face, opt for oversized sunglasses preferably those that cover from the eyebrows to the cheekbones.

Note

Choosing a pair of sunglasses for yourself should not be rocket science. If they look good on you when you look in the mirror, and your friends agree too, then that is the pair for you.
