There are women fighting to be men

How come you studied a business course and you are into journalism?
Journalism is something I do as a passion. Doing something you love comes easier because it comes from the heart. Sometimes, we study courses because they are what our parents want us to do or simply because we excelled but along the way, you discover what you love. There is a quote; “When you do what you love, you will not work another day in your life.” I even worked on television in my S.6 vacation and while in primary, I always told my friends that I wanted to work on TV.

Do you consider yourself a celebrity since you are always on TV?
Not at all. I’m doing something I love and it’s just a job like any other. I’m not even conscious of celebrity stuff and even though I bump into a few people that I chat with, it’s not a big deal. I live a normal life.

So, do you have stalkers?
Yes I do but, it’s something I find so irritating. They are in various categories. There are those who are direct to the point and those who just beat around the bush. Despite the numbers, I handle them maturely. When they get overboard, I sit them down and talk to them. Though some of them persist, I got used and I don’t let it bother me.

When do you plan to get married?
I really don’t know. Getting married was once in my mind but there is a time for everybody and everything to happen. I am not in a rush because when you rush, you crash.

What qualities do you look for in a woman?

I want one who is Christian like myself. I want one who is comfortable in her space as a woman because there are women fighting to be men.

I want a woman who is hardworking because we cannot be on the same page. I want one who will believe in me, ready to support me and one who is attractive.

What else do you do apart from the morning show at NTV?
I will soon be at NTV full time as a news anchor at 9pm. On Saturday, I’m at power FM from 11am to 12.30pm doing Fahrenheit, a political talk show.

Do you see yourself as an accomplished person?
No I don’t. With work, I do something that I’ve always loved to do but I’ve not yet arrived where I want to be. I work hard and I also want today to be better than tomorrow. I’m far from where I want to be because there is always room to excel at the top, unlike the bottom, which is so crowded.

What is your take on women emancipation?
It’s slowly but surely taking a wrong turn because when men rise as men, women get defensive. Women are trying to be men and they forget that they can never be. It’s impossible to use up a man’s place. I would want to see a Uganda where men and women have equal opportunities. Women activists are doing it wrong in that as they try to lift a girl child, the boy child is forgotten about.

Are you for or against polygamy?
I’m absolutely against it. I once had a chat with a friend and he told me that when you have one wife, you fight for her but when you have two, they fight for you. But polygamy also comes with bearing many children whom you cannot give enough attention. That’s why polygamy has eaten up many families.

What are some of the things women do to win over men that irritate you?
There are those who meet you in public places and want to hold you in a certain way as if to tell others that, “Hey, I’m protecting this territory.” There are also those who call you in the morning, afternoon and evening to ask if you had lunch. Are you my mother to ask if I have eaten?

What do you do in your free time?
I like reading a lot and watching international news stations like CNN, Aljazeera and many others. I’m not a movie person but once in a while, I watch a movie when it has been recommended to me by a friend. Once in a while, I also go to hang out with friends.

Between radio and TV, which is harder to do?
There is nothing hard to do between the two but where the difference lies is that with radio, it’s all about what people are hearing as long as you sound okay but with TV, you have to mind about how you dress, your facial expression and a lot more because people don’t hear but see you.
What would be your dream media job?
It is what I am currently doing; talk show hosting and anchoring but only that I have to keep on improving.

What do Christians do for fun?
It depends on the personality of the person. There are those who decide to stay home and watch movies while others hang out with friends at the beach.
What career tips would you give to those in the media?
You have to know what you want because media is broad. It has radio, TV and print. You also have to be teachable and willing to learn continuously from different people. You have to remain down to earth and be humble enough to take criticism in the good stride.
