What jobs would you rather she didn’t do?

What you need to know:

Your man is most likely frowning at your job if it is any of these.

Oba what job? It’s true jobs tend to have an effect on one’s character, their outlook to life, et al but there’s no one size fits all. At the end of the day it’s about the person, how they integrate the relationship in the grand scheme of occupation; be they a soldier, teacher or journalist.

I would however be reluctant to go for a teacher or journalist. Oops! Many I have seen in my short life are stars at infidelity and are not as ambitious as say the girl at that bank or firm. They are a little too comfortable in their not exactly rosy zones.

She should not work as a masseuse in Kampala. The sleazy reputation attached to the job can be a headache on its own but the realities that many people actually fall prey to the temptation to put out while at the job can be dangerous for the health of the couple. There are probably not many people who can resist the constant bombardment of money in those places as clients ask them for sex. Eventually, she will be cornered on a day when she really needs the money and it will be staring in her face. All she has to do is give in. In Kampala, this is a job you do not wish for anybody.

Besides the usual suspects like adult entertainment, the jobs I would want her to steer clear from would be those that would interfere with her ability to be a mother. For example, if she has to travel so often that she is rarely at home, I would mind that.

I would miss her as my wife, plus, who is raising our children? The other jobs, I wouldn’t mind if she is ok, and she is not being disrespected. For example, why would she work as a waitress in a kafunda where all those guys leer at her?

Programming! Firstly, power to all women who code for a living. I’m talking about the ones who write instructions to tell a computer what to do.

Many call them Nerds, others- Geeks! Well, we love them A LOT…and by writing this, I know I’m going to get ‘killed’ for going against the diversity goal in life. But hear me out! I’m not so sure many men want their women becoming commercial coders.

This nature of work can be very demanding and engrosses one into some ‘binary world’ (0010 0110 11) that requires enormous attention to detail, for example you have to close each open parentheses and make sure you put the semi-colon in the right place or the application won’t run! Making them stay up at ungodly hours trying to beat deadlines in dark rooms with no interruptions, figuring out how to make the damn thing work. Neglecting themselves, everything and everyone around them.

Now, any man will tell you- we don’t like our women serving cold beers late at bars, being masseuses or other jobs that will be degrading for a salary…plus the fear of temptation, disrespect by other men or for whatever reason.
