Home remedies for insect bites

Stings and bites from insects are common and usually result in redness and swelling of the injured area. Sometimes a sting or bite can cause a life-threatening allergic reaction or transmit pathogens such as bacteria or parasites to humans but others are harmless.
Some of these easy to get remedies can help.

Basil leaves
Basil leaves, due to the anti-inflammatory properties contained in them are helpful, especially for mosquito bites. It also helps to decrease the swelling that is generally caused by the bites.

Banana peel
Banana has calcium, which helps the affected skin to heal quickly. Rub a banana peel on the bite to soothe the bite area but avoid doing it in open place because it may attract more insects.

Honey gives a double benefit because it has both antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It helps in soothing the bug bite and also prevents the spreading of the infection of bug bites to other body parts. Be careful however, not to use the honey while in an open place because it can also end up attracting more insects due to its sweetness.

Rubbing the alcohol stops the bite from getting infected due to the antiseptic qualities. When applied to the bitten area, alcohol is bound to sting for a while but that will probably keep you distracted from scratching the itch around the bite, which increase, the swelling.

Aloe Vera
Find some fresh aloe vera leaves and cut them longitudinally. Get the gel and apply it on the bitten part.
The anti-inflammatory properties in it will help relieve some of the pain and itch associated with the bite.
