How to treat ringworms from home

Ringworm is a common fungal infection affecting both children and adults. If the infection is on your skin, or in the case of athlete’s foot or jock itch, the doctor can suggest an antifungal cream or lotion.

In addition to the cream, if you have ringworm on the scalp, wash your hair with soap or shampoo to keep it from spreading all over the body or try these home remedies.

Aloe vera
For so long, aloe vera has been used as a natural remedy for many ailments both bacterial and fungal and ringworm is no exception. It can treat the ringworm and soothe symptoms of itchiness, inflammation and discomfort. Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf and apply it to the affected area.

Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has strong antifungal properties, so it may help treat ringworm when applied topically to the affected area. Soak a cotton ball in undiluted apple cider vinegar and brush the cotton ball over your skin. Do this at least twice a day.

Coconut oil
Coconut oil is an extremely effective home remedy for ringworm and infections with other fungi such as candida. It has both microbial and antifungal properties. It is easy to apply to the skin and the scalp and an effective hair conditioner, coconut oil could be an ideal treatment for scalp ringworm.

Use the oil in liquid form and apply it directly onto the affected area because it easily absorbs into the skin. Do this atleast three times daily. Alternatively, warm the coconut oil either in the microwave or in your hand until it becomes liquid and apply it directly to the affected area.

Turmeric
This ginger-like rhizome has numerous health benefits, including antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also an effective antifungal.

Combine fresh-ground turmeric, or the powder with a small amount of water and mix until it becomes a paste. Apply it to your skin and leave it on until it dries. You can also drink turmeric water or turmeric tea daily for internal benefits.
