I recently had sex with my girlfriend but only wore a condom before ejaculation

I recently had sex with my girlfriend but only wore a condom before ejaculation. How can she claim to be pregnant?

Dear Moses,
Use of condoms consistently and correctly not only helps prevent STDs and HIV infection but also prevents pregnancy. The condom should be worn properly before sex and removed immediately after ejaculation before the manhood gets limp risking its slip off and loss of protection.
It is true before ejaculation, the fluids a man releases called pre-cum may contain HIV or other sexually transmitted germs but not sperms, unless a man had ejaculated before and not passed urine after that.
Putting on a condom in the middle of sex promotes retention or slip off of the condom because the manhood will be slippery with the likelihood of failing to protect one from STDs and HIV but not pregnancy. There is no way to prove paternity at this time. Please wait for your girlfriend to deliver and do a DNA paternity test.

Proper condom use
When to put it on. If you are putting a male condom on a penis, it is recommended that you put it on after the penis is erect and before any oral, vaginal, or anal contact with a partner.
Reason. If a penis is inserted into a consenting partner before wearing a condom, pulling out and putting on a condom before ejaculation may not adequately protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or pregnancy.

I have all indicators of pregnancy such as nausea, no periods and a bloated stomach. However, two months ago, I got injectaplan. Could the injection have failed to work?

Dear reader,
Depo provera injection (injectaplan) is a very effective method of family planning though it may have a few side effects such as headaches, bleeding irregularly or no bleeding at all, dizziness and weight gain, among others.
These side effects are not serious and apart from them being mild, many people may not experience them. It is likely that your symptoms are a result of the contraceptive or may be from another cause including stress and anxiety.
If a woman gets the shot during a period or within the first seven days after the start of the period, she is protected from pregnancy straight away. But most women who take the injection after the seven days and do not use another form of protection for the next seven days risk pregnancy after taking the shot.
Since your symptoms resemble those of pregnancy, you need to rule out pregnancy first. Fortunately, depo provera does not harm the pregnancy, enabling you to continue with the pregnancy if it is positive.

My whole body including the feet and hands sweat whether it is hot or not. I fear to shake people’s hands. What is the cause?

Dear Norman,
It is normal to sweat when we get too hot because sweating enables us to cool down. Sometimes, however, we sweat in response to emotions such as being nervous. If one sweats for no apparent reason, or in excess of what is required to cool down, it may be due to a condition referred to as hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis may be from unknown causes but thought to be from over activity of some types of nerves. This so called primary hyperhidrosis may begin in childhood or even puberty and affects particular areas in the body that may include the palms, groin, armpits or soles of feet. These are areas that sweat most because they have the highest number of sweat glands on the body. Armpit sweating tends to start around puberty, while palm and sole sweating may begin earlier, often in childhood. Anxiety, excitement or emotional stress can exacerbate this kind of sweating. This sweating which occurs during day rather than at night, does not usually pose a serious threat to health, but it can be embarrassing and distressing with sufferers fearing giving their wet hands for greeting and associated body or foot odour.
Sometimes Hyperhidrosis may affect the whole body and there is usually triggers including an infection such as Tuberculosis, pregnancy, menopause, anxiety, certain medications, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and an overactive thyroid gland among others. Here treatment involves finding the cause and dealing with it.
That said, generally if one over sweats, over-the-counter antiperspirants, light dressing, cotton dry socks and avoiding too much caffeine may be helpful.

Diabetes

Why are people suffering from diabetes encouraged to take honey instead of sugar yet honey is sweeter?

Dear Amos,
When a person eats food rich in carbohydrates or sugars, they are digested into a simple sugar called glucose, which gives us energy. This sugar may become too much in the blood if the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or produces ineffective insulin leading to glucose accumulating in blood and getting too high.

Diabetes is mostly caused by lifestyles that lead to obesity. In this case, the pancreas will not produce enough insulin for a bigger body. Controlling blood sugar levels is the major goal of diabetes treatment, and involves a suitable diet, physical exercise and monitoring blood glucose levels.

Though the total amount of carbohydrates in a food affects blood sugar levels more than does the source of carbohydrates (whether the source is a starch or sugar), generally, there is no advantage of substituting honey for sugar when one is diabetic. Both honey and sugar will increase the blood sugar levels with honey being the worst offender because it is even sweeter than sugar.

It is true that honey is more nutritious than sugar and when sugar is well controlled (or is very low) one may take honey once in a while but it is better to leave it out all together if it has to be taken routinely or when one’s sugar is high or out of control.
