What you need to know:

The entrance to your house creates a mental image of what is inside. So if your interior looks nice, let the exterior reflect

Some people judge others by first impression. This fact alone should make you stop and ponder the importance of entrance to your house.
Below, Charles Akanga an IT expert and a resident of Najjanankumbi shares some tips on how he achieved a welcoming ambience around his entrance:

1. Make your entrance bold
Akanga advises that you should paint your doors in bold colours like black and brown. He says its contrast with the other colours makes a good statement.

2. Lead your guests in
“Lead your guest from your driveway to your front door with an elaborate path. It should be wide enough for two people to walk comfortably side-by-side,” Akanga says.

3. Always keep it neat
Don’t grow luxuriant plants near your front door only to let them grow wild and get out of hand. Trim and prune them out of your entrance and your walkways.

4. Illumination is key
Akanga says although lighting the entrance would work mostly for night visitors, don’t underestimate the difference lights, especially coloured ones, could do for the mood of your entrance.“White creates a bright mood; and yellow, a warm atmosphere. Meanwhile blue creates a romantic mood.”

5. Protect your guests
“If your front door has no roof over it, add one. You will not regret it. While it will keep the elements of weather off your visitors as they wait for you to let them in, think about the times you may need it yourself.

Where, for example, you would take temporary refuge during a downpour, while you ruffle through your bag for your keys.” Akanga concludes. So, if you wish to inspire a sense of awe in your visitors, friends and acquaintances, why not try out these easy tips?
