Beauty beyond paint

There are different forms of art you can play around with to create uniqueness and beauty in the house. If you want to go away from the usual then do the following to look different from the rest.

Wainscoting
Carolyn Nalumu Mukasa of Carols Interior Concepts says wainscoting is the use of wall covering that extends from the floor to roughly the middle of the wall. It is open wood beadboard and usually white but one can explore painting the wall with other colours of their choice. “The same concept can be achieved using tiles especially in the bathrooms. One is advised to install tile wainscoting in any appropriate floor to ceiling tiles,” she adds.
Floor to ceiling tile is similar to tile wainscoting but here, it continues all the way to the ceiling. But this should be limited to one wall as a focal point, say in the living room, and done with a high degree of visual interest to avoid visual overload or too much effect.

Metal ceiling tiles
When you walk into a room, how many walls do you see? If you are like most people, your eyes are drawn to the four vertical walls and the floor, for a total of five surfaces. Unfortunately, you probably don’t notice the sixth wall of a home because it is often just an off-white space that seems to get lost in the rest of the room’s decor. Many homeowners consider ceiling treatment to be installing a light fixture or perhaps a ceiling fan, but there is an inexpensive option for turning your ceilings into the most dramatic walls in your home: metal ceiling tiles.
Mukasa says these make good wall coverings and are often found on the back splashes as well as the ceiling. They are installed by gluing them to the wall.

Wood panels
Mary Namukose, an interior designer says this has come of age now. The best way or trending style for this product is to mount them against horizontal surfaces.

Removable wall paper
Namukose says this is a quick décor option for someone living in an apartment with either nasty or plain boring walls. They are quick and easy to apply and it is affordable.

Hanging crafts
There are a lot of artists who doodle very nice pictures. You can choose to extend beauty on your wall with these. “You will have to either buy picture boards or to have the picture drawn on your wall. They both bring in the elegancy,” Nalumu explains.
Stitched fabrics and art
Artists have taken a step to create some of the most interesting fabrics that people are exploiting to create a difference in their homes.
“In Uganda, people normally use African fabric Kitenge to create a bit of culture in their home and, of course, uniqueness and beauty too,” Namukose tips.

Shelves
According to Nalumu, shelves will help to store things well in the house while at the same time bringing beauty to the walls. Here, the choice matters. “There are a lot of good art out there. Shelves with different designs, colour and texture are there so beauty will depend on your choice,” she notes.

Wall curtains
Curtains will not end on the windows but extend to walls and bring to them unbelievable beauty. Add a beautiful curtain with cool colours and design choice to have a good effect on your walls. “In case you have cracked or dirty walls, curtains will help to hide the imperfections.”

Hanging flowers
Flowers are adorable features that one may not easily avoid. They create beauty wherever they are placed. You can choose to place them in attractive flower pots and hang them on the walls. They will bring in nature and beauty.
Nalumu says flowers can either be natural or artificial depending on what works better for you.

Decorative mirrors
Hanging a mirror on your wall can add both depth and intrigue to your space. They help to make it big with the power of light and reflection. Besides, mirrors will help you bring beauty to your wall.
