Make your bathroom look bigger

Use the same colours for both the floor and wall in your bathroom, adding a mirror and enough light will make a small bathroom look big.

If you are the kind of person who likes a spacious bathroom, finding yourself in a house with a small one will be very inconveniencing. However, if you are creative enough, you will know that there are a number of ways you can make your bathroom look bigger than it really is.

Use a uniform colour
Painting everything a unifying colour will make the space visually expand. It cuts down on the number of transitions and intersecting planes, therefore creating a cleaner and more expansive upper space in the room. Additionally, blending the tile to the wall doubles your space in a small bathroom.

Have the same transitions
The more you blend material from one area to the next without stopping and starting it, the cleaner and less busy the space will appear thus making the room look bigger. In this case, if you plan on using tiles for the wall, cover the whole of it with the same types and colour.

Use clear glass
Textured glass can make a room feel like it has an extra wall.
You may be able to get light in and have some privacy, but it will be a visual barrier within the room. So in this case, opt for clear glass if you plan on using any.

Use big mirrors
Nothing makes a bathroom feel bigger than a mirror that reaches the ceiling. Trimmed out in wood or tile, a tall, expansive mirror with lighting installed on top of it, or hanging in front of it, will double the light’s impact and make the space grow. Don’t use double mirrors over side by side sinks either. Again, it will cut up the space.

Go for plenty of natural light
Natural light in a master bathroom is always desirable. After all, nothing beats the feeling of walking into a bathroom in the morning and welcomed by glorious sunshine. If you don’t have a window, consider a solatube, or some kind of skylight to bring some natural light into the space.

Use mirrors strategically
Place mirrors across from a window within the room. Doing so will make it visually seem like you have two windows in the same space.

Recess your cabinets and shelves into the walls
Just like a typical medicine cabinet is recessed into a wall, if you have a linen cabinet that protrudes out into the space, and you need just a few more inches of storage, bury it into the wall. Of course, doing so will require the walls to be reframed in that area, but that’s alright! Because it’s amazing what four extra inches will get you.
