Some people go ahead and realise this dream but for many, it remains a fantasy, because they forget that it takes more than describing everything as you want it. There is a lot of background work and preparation that needs to be done and also everything you desire will require some money to get it into place.

It is important to know that, some of the money on construction will not necessarily go to the house, but rather facilitate the process.

Consultancy
A portion of the money you keep for building your house will go to consultants.

This is because for every construction, be sure to spend some money on professionals like architects, engineers, surveyors, environmentalists, and others as will be required. These will make it possible for you to realise your dream.

Preliminaries
Then there are items that need to be in place before breaking the ground. Some will not be applicable to your site or you may have alternatives but it’s advisable to do a check list to see what you will need.

Hoarding (temporary fencing off the building site), the water source for the works, stores for materials, site offices, telephone, sanitation, tools (spades, wheel barrows, hoes, etc.), site clearance and grading to required levels and many more, come at a cost.

External works
External works may be things like the driveway, parking, walkways, storm water drainage, paving, landscaping, boundary walls, septic tank, manholes, dustbin cubicles, gatehouse, kennel among others.
