Planning for a three- bedroomed house

A three-bedroomed house can have a number of other rooms if you plan well as indicated in the plan above and the artistic impression to the right. Illustration by Julius Eryenyu Jojo.

You can change the layout of your three-bedroomed house.

The plan presented here is a three-bedroomed house that can suitably fit on 50ft by 100ft plan, and if the plot is larger, there is an advantage of adding more amenities on the house. The design of this house has the following features.

Entrance
Unlike the traditional norm of entering the house through the sitting room, this kind of design has an alternative entrance, that enables access to the bedrooms, kitchen and dining without having to go through the sitting room, this kind minimises sitting room interruptions.

Bedrooms
The master bedroom is separated and situated away from the other family bedrooms; this enables the parents and the children to appreciate their privacy, without interference. The master bedroom is designed with shelves along the passage, to provide storage space for items like, shoes, umbrellas, art pieces, and any others. There is also a walk-in-closet that is separated from the actual bedroom area and is adjacent to the bathroom, where bathing and dressing/ changing can be done before moving to the bedroom area, this kind of arrangement frees the bedroom from such activities and leaves it only for resting/relaxing.

Kitchen
The kitchen is designed with a worktop and shelves under the worktop and also wall cabinets, there is a pantry that provides more storage space, an attached laundry (where you can put washing machine, sink and ironing platform) where all the cloths and household linen are washed and ironed, the kitchen back door that leads to the kitchen yard for back of the house activities like hanging clothes, collecting rubbish and sometimes slaughtering and roasting, food drying and many other activities.

Dinning
The dining is open to the sitting room on one side and a backyard porch on the other, the backyard porch will mainly be beneficial in case the plot is designed to have a back-yard private (hide away) garden.

This type of house will cost you between Shs85m and more to construct, depending on the materials you use, how you manage construction or building and making it habitable first and then completing most items later, the choice of constructor and many other factors; but in order to get a clear picture on how much it will cost, it is better you acquire actual estimates.

Please note; this is just an illustrative plan and should not be taken as a basis for any three-bedroomed house on a 100ft by 50ft plot of land.
