The four-bedroomed house plan was trending

These illustrations are examples (among many others) of the kind of house that was trending this year house fitting on a 50ft x100ft plot.

A big number of people who wanted a four-bedroomed house plan in 2014 had a 100ft by 50ft plot of land and they wanted open sitting and dinning rooms.

This year, one of the trending house plans was a four-bedroomed house on a 50ft by 100ft plot. This plot seemed small but it was sufficient for the basic housing needs and depending on the design adopted for the plot, the owners were able to have maximum usage of their plot.

The design concept allowed balanced use of space, meaning that the main house would fit and allow more space that could be used for other purposes like a kitchen yard, a vegetable patch, boy’s quarter, parking space for at least two cars, and some compound/lawn space in front of the house. The inside space was used as explained below;

Space usage
Open sitting and dining room.
Kitchen with a built-in pantry, and with an external door that leads to the back of the house. Two-bedrooms each with built-in wardrobes and spacious enough to have two single beds.

A shower/toilet suite that is shared by the two bedrooms.
A self-contained master bedroom, with a walk through closet placed in such a way that access the wet area through the closet, and a spacious bed area was enough for a king size bed, a workstation or a dressing table with two chairs and a small table.

A fourth bedroom (also self-contained) with a walk through closet, suitable for a guest bedroom, master bedroom (though relatively smaller), or a bedroom for the grown up children. It’s situated on the opposite side of the other bedrooms and enjoys more privacy from other bedrooms.

An L- shaped verandah overlooking a private garden, on this verandah with space for outdoor chairs, for relaxation. Two parking slots.

For people that were able to plan for this plot of land well, they were able to add structures such as a two-roomed domestic servant’s quarter, with a toilet and shower, a small store, and a kitchen. Or alternatively the servant’s quarter’s space could be used as a vegetable patch, small orchard, detached garage/ car port and may other options.

It should be noted that much as you may want to have maximum usage of the plot, there is a limit to the number and size of structures you can set up on a given plot as per building regulations and guidelines of a given approving authority.

Please note that the illustrations shown are only meant to provide a rough idea of going about the discussed topic and your consultant (architect) is in good position to guide you on this in line with the building laws requirements.
