Trends: Unique protruding wall decor

The trending decor includes wall art that protrudes from the walls, compared the one that is one with the wall or lies flat along the wall.

It is amazing how it is the little things that do the magic. It could be a candle stand or well designed glass vase.
A well- lit corridor with a piece of mirror hanging on the wall just above the carefully furnished wood table on which stands a beautifully crafted candle stand... Now, this is just the kind of spectacular look I would like to see in my home.
My day’s pick today though is a wall hanging that bursts forth to add a sense of elegance to a room. Burst wall décor is such an impeccable taste as it is certainly warm and welcoming especially when placed in the right room spaces.
According to Yvette Tumwine, a sales person at Nina Interiors, “The available burst wall décor types include mirrors, wall clocks, metal hanging, sand craft hangings.”

Where to set it up
Tumwine says this protruding wall decor can be set up in corridors or hall ways, living rooms, bedrooms, dinning set up, and bathroom spaces.
“Ensure to pick out just the right wall fitting that will blend in with the rest of the decor in your room spaces,” emphasises Tumwine. Since these decor pieces are prominent, they will even be more visible if they do not fit in with the rest of the room in which they are used.

How you can apply it
Tumwine further guides us on the following tips;
• In sitting room place. When it comes to large size wall fittings, place it just above the sofas. Do not place the decor above the TV area because it is very distracting, unless it is butterfly wall hangings which suit best on TV walls.
• In corridors. Place a mirror on the wall, not too high above, but rather on a level it is user-friendly. For spacious corridors, you can place a corridor table and potted plant or candle stand, to complement the wall hanging.
• In the bathroom room. Place the wall art next to a counter top basin to add sophistication. If it is mirror, ensure that it is reachable for users.

• This kind of wall art will not be favourable in narrow or busy spaces such as corridors since it requires space to protrude into and will be in the way.
An artistic mirror in a narrow corridor would, for instance, be easily damaged while a dried plant piece would just be a nuisance to by passers.
Mirror hangings for décor require that you keep on the watch for children who play in the corridor spaces,” concludes Yvette.

Maintenance
• Drill the hangings on to the wall or put hooks to firmly hold the wall art in place to minimise chances of falling and damage.

MAINTENANCE TIPS
• In cases of decorative mirrors, wipe dust off with a dry cloth before wiping with water and detergent, then dry off with a clean, dry cotton cloth.
• Avoid using a wet cloth before dusting the mirror as this only makes it harder to remove the dust.
• You can also use a newspaper to clean the mirror as it makes it clean and clear.

Estimated cost
Budget for about Shs160,000 to Shs750,000 from the high end furniture shops, which is where you are likely to find this kind of decor. The smaller the art/decor piece is, the cheaper it may get, save for decorative mirrors which remain generally costly.
