Usable home snake repellants

SAFETY : If you move into a new house that is less populated, snakes can be one of the scares. But with planting of some plants, this will be history. Try them out.
Imagine you have just moved into a new home far away from crowded residential areas. The surrounding of your home is bushy exposing you to snakes, among other reptiles.
No matter how many you kill, the snakes do not seem to reduce and yet you have cleared all the bushes around your home. This poses a danger to you and your family members. A lasting solution to the challenges mentioned is all you need and this can be found in ed snake repellants.
Below are some of them. The choice will depend on the cost and the danger they have to human human life, especially children.
Aluminium Phosphate tablets
This type of snake repellant comes in tablet form. It is one of the most common snake repellants on the Ugandan market. According to Michael Waako, a snake repellant retailer, this type of snake repellant is placed around the house and it repels all types of snakes.
While putting them, he advises that you leave a distance between the house and the place where the tablets are placed. “Aluminium Phosphate tablets can be placed 15 meters away from the house. This is so because of the tablets pungent smell can be irritating to anyone. Aluminium Phosphate tablets can also be toxic to human life and therefore must be handled carefully and kept away from children,” says Waako. They are found in most retail shops and cost Shs6,000 for a tube and Shs50,500 a bottle. A tube, which he considers the cheapest usually contains 20 tablets.
Snake fix
This is also a common type of snake repellant in Uganda. John Kaberu, an uptown self-employed gardener, says this type of snake repellant comes in liquid form and it is usually mixed in water and sprayed in and around the house. Just like other toxic snake repellants, Snake fix is harmful to human life. He advises people who are opting to use this type of snake repellant to stay away from the house for quite some time. This, he says, can help people avoid being affected by the repellant. “People who are opting for this type of snake repellant have to stay away from the house for close to three or four weeks,” says Kaberu. He adds that unlike some of the snake repellants, this type is sold in liters. “A liter of snake fix goes for Shs40,000,” he says. He also says that it repels all kinds of snakes. In other words it has no particular snake it repels and doesn’t.
Moth ball flakes
This type of snake repellant according to Waako Micheal is not very common on the Ugandan market. He however says that it usually comes in form of balls packaged in a box. Waako adds that it is also dangerous to human life and must be handled carefully and kept away from children. “Any one opting for this type of snake repellant has to use gloves when handling them,” says Waako. Unlike other snake repellants, this one repels all reptiles such as snakes, lizards, spider, tortoises among others. It is better to place it the backyard of the house. A box of Moth ball flakes costs Shs35,000.
Other snake repellants
Tobacco
These are usually planted around the house most especially areas suspected of harbouring snakes. John Kaberu asserts that it is one type of snake repellant that has been used in homes for quite some time and is effective. You, however, have to plant it at various points so that the scent spreads.
Predators
Owning animals such as cats that are not friendly to snakes is another solution. Such predators are effective when it comes to repelling snakes away from homes.
Ultrasonic sound emitters
This type of snake repellant produces loud sound that scares away any wild creature.
Sulfur
This can be in liquid or powder form . It is also known to be effective when it comes to repelling snakes and other creatures that could be harmful to human life.
There are other plants on the market but the names are not known yet. You just have to ask people that sell flowers and they will present to you a variety with different scents.
CAUTION
Most repellants such as snake fix are harmful to human life. Michael Waako, a snake repellant retailer, people who are opting to use this type of snake repellant to stay away from the house for sometime. This, he says, can help people avoid being affected by the repellant and yet the house will be free from snakes by the time you enter it.
