Get your modern décor right

Contemporary decor entails using bright and bold colours plus simple furniture.

Every individual has a style and the way they like to arrange their home because what might work for your friend may not necessarily work for you.
You might be the kind of person who likes keeping up to date with trendy styles or probably you adore modern furniture and would change your entire house so that it has the latest furniture or wall hangings.
If you are one of these two, then maybe you are employing the contemporary décor style in your home.

Contemporary interior décor involves using more furniture or paintings that are welcoming. Although it is a style that is equally suitable for offices and stores and lofts, one can incorporate this décor style into their home.
It is usually defined by simple, light weight furniture which can be moved around for different purposes with sharp. It also aims at creating plenty of free space and is usually preferred by the young people or corporate class who are experimental, adventurous and with no family responsibilities.
According to Ronald Edmond Ssesanga, an interior designer with Furniture Fittings, contemporary décor can be done by using fabrics rich in velvet or leather and the furniture should make a statement.
He explains that this kind of decor combines both modern and classic although all this depends on the person’s taste.

Colour
Andrew Mbabazi, an interior designer with Erimu Company Limited, says the beauty of this style, “is that it does not limit one to a particular design but rather enables you to adventure in style since it mainly focuses on giving a new touch to something.”
He further explains that with contemporary, the interior is basic and bare but often, comes off bold because of the colours used; neutrals, black, and white are the main colours in contemporary interior décor although you can punch it up and give weight to it with bright and bold colours such as red, peach but they should be balanced.
With walls painted in a basic neutral colour, you have a wonderful background for bold coloured accessories. If a wall is either a bright or bold colour, neutrals should be used everywhere else.

Furniture
Gloria Kavuma, an interior designer with Habitat Consultants adds that this can be achieved by using lots of throw cushions, and the more cushions you use, the richer the emphasis of the style.
There is a contrast in colours and there is always a focal point in the room for instance, one can use stone finishing in order to create the focal point.

Lighting
Kavuma notes that contemporary embraces simplicity and neatness. Mbabazi highlights that lights can be incorporated into the ceiling with spotlights used more for the wall lights.
He further notes that shades for the wall brackets are inspired by shapes and there are no curves.

Floor
Floors in a contemporary style home should be bare and smooth in wood, tile and if you must use carpets, let them add warmth to the floor. You can add colour and texture with plain or pattern rugs.
With contemporary décor, the interior designers explain that the beauty is defined in using less objects but rather settling for unique pieces such as wall hangings that are different and can stand out.
This means that from a far, one should be able to distinguish a wall hanging from a piece of furniture that is in the house.
Therefore, while contemporary interior décor is defined by simplicity, you should be able to make a statement of your own which makes your sitting room standout.
