How can I manage my work-load and perform better?

I have realised lately that I am behind schedule on key deliverables. This is partly because I have a heavy workload. Although my team has not yet pointed it out, I want to do my best to achieve targets. How can I perform better? Andrew

Dear Andrew,
Many excelling employees always plan their work in advance. This enables them to minimise stress and work-related pressure.
You can start by devising a daily tasks schedule at your workplace. Having a to-do list enables you to follow up on assignments and effectively execute them.
With the advent of social media, employees start chatting on the internet as soon as they arrive at the workplace. This means the most productive morning hours will be wasted.
For particular jobs, internet is a necessary evil - with it, complex tasks are simplified if you log on to the appropriate sites. On the other hand, it can have devastating effects on productivity if not regulated.
Getting employees to deliver effectively is an uphill task for many managers today but with adequate planning, it is possible.
As a supervisor, you need to communicate individual and group tasks and set targets. You can monitor progress through demanding regular updates, which will help you to know and expeditiously deal with roadblocks.
Some employees believe they work better under pressure and will be reluctant to adhere to timelines. This, however, is not sustainable in the long-run because working under intense pressure has health risks. You need planning to execute your duties productively.
