Online MBA boosting carriers of professionals

Business leaders are better off with an MBA.

Business leaders are better off with an MBA.

In Summary

The MBA is often a beneficial degree choice for working professionals who need to obtain additional education to reach their career goals and climb the corporate ladder. Professionals who undertake it are expected to be reliable in making quick business choices.

As a busy and ambitious professional, you may want the range of skills and expertise the Master in Business Administration (MBA) can provide, but do not have time to accommodate the schedule of a less flexible programme.

The online MBA is programme specifically designed to meet such challenges. The programme provides an intellectual, demanding and rigorous menu that enables you to study when and where you wish and to take your examinations anywhere at your convenience.

According to Ms Jean M.N. Katongole, the MBA programme is designed for students whose professional interests, center on traditional business functions. These MBAs offer such concentrations as finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, and business administration.

Mr Paul Nkola Mulapada, the finance manager at Ultra Uganda Limited, says after attaining his degree in Business Administration, he hoped for a position that would enable him make decisions in an organisation, but had to add value to his qualities. “I chose to enroll for an online MBA, and since then, my curriculum vitae is weightier,” he said. “I can now think strategically, an aspect required of top managers.”

Professor Alex Scott, director of learning and teaching at Edinburgh Business School, which is in affiliation with Management and Accountancy Training (MAT) in Uganda says: “Students doing the MBA must be able to drive concepts in organisations and emphase strategic planning as a core value.” He adds: “Taking an interdisciplinary approach to learning, MBA programmes are not only meant to deepen students’ understanding of business management, but also to further develop their critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.”

Prof. Scott says the world over, bosses, chief executive officers and managers are supposed to be result oriented, must show the zeal to attend to organisational challenges and drive outcomes.

But how you attain that in this increasingly busy and competitive world, calls for value addition and exposure to practical business problem-solving avenues at a global arena, according to Mr Olaley Thomas Ogangbange, the managing director of CITA bulk storage facilities Ltd in Nigeria, a graduate of MBA with Edinburgh University in Austria.

In Uganda
However, before you make the commitment to earn an MBA, you must first understand exactly what an MBA is, as well as whether it’s the right degree programme for you. It is often a beneficial degree choice for working professionals who need to obtain additional education to reach their career goals and climb the corporate ladder.

In Uganda, Management and Accountancy Training (MAT) is one of the certified institutions by the National Council for Higher Education. It offers a highly credited MBA programme in the world, according to the Financial Times newspaper. Edinburgh Business School – under Heriot Watt University has over 606 students and 370 already in the market in Uganda.

Other beneficial programmes at the institution offers are the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Uganda (ICPAU), Association of Business Executives (ABE).
