The exposition was an opportunity to celebrate good leaders and empower young ones.

Upon getting a place of work and or service in a career, employees have to play a leadership role because it is a call for everyone, market place speakers have said.

While attributing leadership as destiny for excellence, speakers say leadership is an avenues for people especially those with Christian values; a role that can be assumed due to diligence at work.

Mr George Bamugemereire, a legal and human resource professional, says workers can make it to top positions as their destiny if they acquire, develop and are encouraged to attain their destiny. “Leadership is a call of service and it is worthy investing in building it. But many people who would have achieved do not because their potential has not been identified and developed,” says Mr Bamugemereire.

He says employers upon recruitment need to identify and train their workers for them to appreciate the way people get jobs and promoted to the top positions. “There are certain skills that a person needs to acquire in order to advance and sustain leadership and the only tools to apply are not certificates but capacity, achievement and relationship,” says Bamugemereire arguing that employers can identify talent and also develop it as well.

He explains that one’s leadership ability is rated on the mental capability on how to perform objectively, what that the person has done and the level of influence to enable teams perform. According to Mr Bamugemereire, a suitable person to serve at leadership level must have a clear and vivid vision, able to communicate, integrity, dedicated and committed to serve.

Other qualities include discipline to achieve, honesty, openness, fairness in dealings, creativity, assertiveness and a sense of humour. Mr Bamugemereire, who has since been appointed to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Government, was one of the speakers at the leadership exposition 2013 organised by Destiny Consult at Makerere Deliverance Church.

Ms Dorothy Kiyimba Kisaka, a consultant explains that the exposition that attracted managers, business proprietors, employers and academicians was an opportunity to celebrate good leaders and empower young ones. “There is a lot of talk about bad leaders but there are good ones who can teach others. We seek to inspire, motivate and share experiences as well as learning how to lead,” she said.
