Workplace: Loyalty is rewarding

Being loyal to your organisation goes beyond simply showing up at work every day.

Joseph is such an inspiring accountant. For more than 20 years at the fort of handling money, his services just get better every day. He comes off as a rare seed in a profession where many practitioners are generally known to have a knack for ‘cooking the books’.
The commitment and dedication to his job and the company is amazing. Unlike Joseph, few employees are aware that biting the hand that feeds them kills their jobs and career. They get busy falsifying documents to defraud their employers in an attempt to grow richer faster.
This kind of behaviour is killing many organisations, especially those that have not yet mastered the art of modern bookkeeping. This vice is further facilitated by loose internal controls. Being loyal goes beyond simply showing up at work every day to include aspects such as how well you do your work, the attachment you have to your workplace in the form of identity, and care for business continuity.
Once you have been entrusted with leadership, focus should be on how well you use your position for the benefit of all. Some organisations simply hire and promote.
As it is today, there is a growing trend of employees across the board who have resorted to being target workers. They focus on enriching themselves first with much less or total disregard to the company goals and rules.
Such a category of managers will stop at nothing when it comes to signing hefty private financial deals and using company resources while their subordinates continue to languish. Another trick involves introducing bogus policies and creating office cliques. This helps them to cement their interests as long as they can last in that particular position.
So, you are better of putting the company interests first in your line of duty.
